Green Owner of the Year Goes to Cashman Equipment

Wednesday, July 29, 2009 (Las Vegas, Nevada) The 2nd Annual Las Vegas Business Press Green Awards, held recently at the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, brought together more than 125 attendees from the southern Nevada business community. The event recognized the people, products, and companies who made exceptional environmental efforts in 2008. MaryKaye Cashman, chairman and CEO of Cashman Equipment, received an award for her company’s new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) corporate headquarters on St. Rose Parkway.

Green Award entries were submitted in eight categories, recognizing the accomplishments of architectural firms, contractors, owners, and public and private projects. Winners were chosen by a panel of industry leaders, based on a list of criteria provided to applicants before submitting their entries. The Las Vegas Business Press received more than 125 nominations during this year’s call for entries.

Cashman Equipment’s journey towards LEED corporate headquarters began approximately four years ago when seven acres of the company’s North Las Vegas location became subject to eminent domain. The Caterpillar dealership partnered with SH Architecture and Burke & Associates to construct a new facility with adequate space to effectively serve their customers. Sustainability factored into a wide variety of decisions, from where the building would be located to replacing individual trash cans with recycling containers. Cashman Equipment will soon be Nevada’s largest LEED Gold industrial building.

Tony Illia of the Las Vegas Business Press presented Cashman with the Green Owner of the Year award, commending her strong commitment to sustainability. Other winners included companies like Evergreen Recycling, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), and the Blind Center of Nevada. Cashman commented, “Sustainability is something everyone can make a commitment to if they plan appropriately. I hope we are the first of many to choose this path.”
