Las Vegas Paving Receives Nevada’s First Caterpillar CT660 Vocational Trucks

Published on January 25, 2012

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 (Las Vegas, Nevada) Las Vegas Paving Corporation recently became the first company in Nevada to take delivery of Cat’s brand new CT660 Vocational Trucks. The Class 8 “vocational,” or industry specialized, trucks are designed to suit a variety of applications depending on the configuration of the vehicle. The CT660 line debuted at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2011 in Las Vegas, and featured dump, heavy haul, lube, and concrete mixing trucks (just a few of the many body options).

According to Caterpillar, the CT660 Vocational Truck was developed with extensive input from customers, with thousands of hours spent riding along with actual drivers in order to ensure a product that truly met users’ needs. The results include features like Cat CT11, CT13, and CT15 engine options with displacements of 11.1, 12.5, and 15.2 liters, which provides horsepower ratings from 330 to 550 and peak torque ratings from 1,450 to 1,850 lb-ft. so customers have flexibility in horsepower/torque combinations for job-centric performance.
A CT660 transmission option developed exclusively by Caterpillar is the Cat CX31 automatic, which has heavy-duty clutches and gear sets that allow full-power shifts, increasing efficiency and productivity, while reducing drivetrain shock loads. This makes driving the CT660 more user-friendly and can lower maintenance costs. Customers can also enjoy the comfort of a spacious cab, specially designed with lumbar-support seats and a sound-dampening insulation kit to minimize in-cab noise.

All these attributes, combined with the dedicated parts and service support from Cashman Equipment, helped Las Vegas Paving select the CT660 Vocational Truck. The first CT660 delivered features the lube service body, while the second CT660 has a mobile concrete dispenser body and can be seen in person at the World of Concrete convention at the Cemen Tech booth (Central Hall, #5223) January 24-27. These truck body selections will support Las Vegas Paving’s operations throughout the company’s territory in the Western U.S., facilitating greater productivity through on-site fleet service and aggregate mixing, respectively.

During an informal dedication ceremony on January 20th, Caterpillar Los Angeles District Manager Tony Fassino presented an engraved plaque to Bob Mendenhall, Las Vegas Paving founder, owner, and CEO, saying, “Caterpillar is pleased to present Las Vegas Paving with this plaque in honor of these trucks. And while the CT660s are the focus of today, the truly important thing is Las Vegas Paving and all the people you employ and support in this community.” Fassino went on to commend Las Vegas Paving and Cashman Equipment for building such a long-standing, solid relationship with each other.

MaryKaye Cashman, Chairman and CEO, followed Fassino’s statements by expressing her high personal regard and affection for Mendenhall and Las Vegas Paving, while Mike Pack, Cashman’s President and COO said, “We’re thrilled that Las Vegas Paving is the company receiving the very first CT660 trucks in the state.”
While taking photos and encouraging various employees and family members to get in the cabs of the trucks, Mendenhall stated, “They sure are good-looking trucks.”

The CT660 Vocational Truck line is typically sold into the marketplace where Cat’s machines are sold already. The trucks round out Caterpillar’s offerings, providing a full range of solutions, backed by the company’s reputation for quality and excellence.
