Thursday, October 15, 2009 (Las Vegas, Nevada) Cashman Equipment Company’s new corporate headquarters has been announced as the winner in the Green Building category of Southwest Contractor’s Best of 2009 awards. Southwest Contractor, a construction industry publication since 1938, holds an annual competition recognizing construction and design excellence in separate award ceremonies for Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Nominated by general contractor Burke & Associates, Cashman Equipment’s corporate headquarters is the largest industrial Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified facility in Nevada. Built using sustainable principles, Cashman’s campus features energy-saving systems such as geothermal heating/cooling, air-quality-conscious low volatile organic compound (VOC) paints, water-conserving xeriscaping and lavatory fixtures, and resource-preserving recycled content in the asphalt, tile/carpet, and concrete panels.

All of these elements were evaluated by Southwest Contractor’s independent jury, which was comprised of design and construction professionals. After carefully scoring more than 60 entries and engaging in intense discussion on each, the Nevada competition jury arrived at 19 winning projects in categories such as Best Green Building and Best Transportation Project.

“The judges considered a variety of criteria for each project, from teamwork and safety to innovation and aesthetics,” says Scott Blair, senior editor of Southwest Contractor. “Several close contests were decided by which project provided the greatest social or economic benefit to the community.” Cashman Equipment Company chairman and CEO, MaryKaye Cashman, commented, “Awards of this caliber are only as significant as the competition you are up against. Our facility was compared to several outstanding projects, which reveals the business community’s movement as a whole towards greater sustainability. That is what truly benefits us all.”

The winning projects will be honored during an awards ceremony held December 17th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Top category winners such as Cashman Equipment Company will move on to the national Best of the Best 2009 competition.
