Rebuilds in the Shop: Cat 785 Haul Trucks & a Crane

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

The four Caterpillar 785s that were recently rebuilt in Cashman’s Henderson and Reno shops were not only in desperate need of rehab, they were also so large, they couldn’t be shipped with the wheels on. The wheels were transported separately, then put on the machine upon arrival. Even with the wheels back on, however, a crane was necessary to pick up the 785s and move them into Cashman’s service bays. While crane companies are certainly used to moving large objects, this was a tricky one even for them, and the process took hours longer than expected!

Record-breaking News from the Caterpillar Production Line!

Monday, October 31st, 2011

On Friday October 28, 2011, Caterpillar Decatur finished building the 1,000th Large Mining Truck for 2011. The 797F has been purchased by Grupo Mexico, and will soon be hard at work at their Cananea copper mine in Sonora, Mexico.  This unit is also the 175th 797F built since the release of the F Series in late 2009.

The history of Large Mining Trucks in Decatur, Illinois dates back to September 1984, with first production of the 785.  Incidentally, the first production 785 has now been retired from operation, and is currently being prepared to be displayed proudly in front of the Decatur facility by the end of the year.  Following the introduction of the 785, Caterpillar then went on to the production of the 789 in October 1986, and first production of the 793 in January 1991.  It took approximately seven full years to produce the first 1,000 Large Mining Trucks (1985-1991). Caterpillar has now produced 1,000 Large Mining Trucks in the first 10 months of 2011!

Congratulations to the Caterpillar Decatur plant for their continued dedication to Caterpillar’s success.

With the price of gold still rising, the mining industry has been doing very well recently. The Elko Mining Expo 2011 reflected that change in a big way – every room in town was full and almost every Expo booth was occupied. It was one of the busiest Expos in recent history… and new Elko Sales Manager, Chris Wolford, was thrown right into it the day he started.

2011 Elko Mining Expo

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Elko Mining ExpoThere is definitely no sign of last week’s Mining Expo madness at the Elko Convention Center. With record attendance both from exhibitors and visitors, the city of Elko was bustling just like our exhibit booth on the 9th and 10th of June. The many solutions we offer for sales, work tools, parts, service, rental, power, fluids analysis, lasers, and technology were represented. Our equipment display area included a motor grader, backhoe, skid steer, mini-excavator, load-haul dump with customized GET, service truck, light tower, compressor, generator, snow-blower attachment, telehandler, and much more, which created a mini-theme park of heavy equipment for all to enjoy. Visiting each station inside the booth gave attendees the chance to learn a bit more about Cashman Equipment and an opportunity to win one of five fabulous raffle prizes. If that wasn’t enough, everyone that stopped by our booth received a commemorative 80th anniversary pewter haul truck key chain along with a long list of other giveaways.

Mining friends, city of Elko, and Elko Convention Center – cheers to another successful Mining Expo!!
